The first installation of Sankofa Saturdays was a resounding success!!! The program is currently being piloted at Clanzel Brown Park as one of its premiere ,“Saturday Night Lights” , grassroot community initiatives this summer . The Kemetic Empire/ Urban-GeoPonics firmly believes in teaching youth and strengthening their emotional maturity/judgment, leadership abilities, adaptability, communication skills, enthusiasm and energy, self-confidence, respect for elders/authority, and others, but especially themselves. A cultural education centered initiative where (with other local artists and culture bearers) students will learn from local youth advocates that have committed themselves to creating change in the Sankofa Region . Students from the ages of 6-17 years old will work on to insure the preservation and documentation of our rich heritage. These next 7 weeks Urban GeoPonics will explore the 7 principles of Kwanzaa through activities centered around these fundamental concepts of an African centered- perspective lifestyle. Saturday Umoja was the focal principal explored teaching kids That through Unity we will strive for maintain our family, community, nation and race . Some activities include “The Human Ankh”, Emperors /Empress Chess club, and conversations with our Daughters.

Programming will last from 7- 10 pm
June 25th to August 6th
at
Clanzel Brown Park

Sankofa Saturday’s goal is to create a holistic learning environment where child gain a world perspective on our community, family ,social economics and life management. This project will allow our youth to go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today.
The Sankofa Saturday Curriculum will be available to the public at the end of the year.
